WEATHER FAIR AT FIRST.

There will be scattered rain in western districts of the South Island, says the 4 p.m. report. Elsewhere the weather will be mainly fair at first with rain developing soon in the far north. Dull, misty conditions and rain will gradually extend southwards. Temperatures will be mild to warm.

Winds of increasing velocity from the north-east are predicted for North Auckland. Elsewhere there will be moderate to strong westerly to northerly winds. Seas in New Zealand wafers will be rough about Cook Strait, elsewhere moderate but rising north of East Cape and south of Cape Egmont. In the eastern Tasman Sea there will be moderate to strong winds, rising in parts to gale force, from the north-east in the northern portion and north-west in the southern. Seas will be moderate but increasing. e An anti-cyclone has been crossing the Dominion, the centre to-day being east of the North Island. There is a depression over the south-west Tasman and another one north-west of Norfolk Island.
