HAWERA TRACK NOTES

HORSES FOR NEW PLYMOUTH. 1 NEW HURDLERS. SCHOOLED. (By “Limited,”) The Hawera horses engaged at New Plymouth on Saturday are with very few exceptions well forward in racing • condition, and' Hawera. promises to. be worthily represented in the. various events. There was not a great deal of fast work on the track yesterday morning but all the horses engaged at New Plymouth were out' performing solid useful exercise. The plough track was in first rate order. Golden Hair (Cook), Friesland! (Monkley) and Brough’s Colossus three-year-old (Cole) galloped five, furlongs. Friesland was slow to get going, losing several lengths, Golden Hair and the three-year-old carrying on to the three furlongs in 37%5. In tile run home Golden Hair was going well to finish a length in front of Brough’s. gelding, with Friesland,-who made Up his ground splendidly, a length further back in 1.45. The hurdlers Stanchion and March Alone, ridden by two of J. Fryer’s featherweights, Alan McDonald and Tod Sloan Howe, finished- with little between them at the end of half a mile in ■ 525.

Passing Fancy (Cole) shaped more encouragingly, than on Saturday, sprinting her four furlongs in 50 4-ss. Lady .Eka (Duncan) ran home the last three furlongs of a round in 41s. Ruri (Duncan) and Haunui (Sheild) were apportioned half-pace exercise, which both were anxious to improve on. Diagano (Edgecombe) finished well in front of Ingenuity (Conway) at the end of a working gallop over seven furlongs covered in lm 365. Dianago did his work pleasingly. Ingenuity had much the worse of the weights. Colossal (Duncan) worked eagerly over a round at three-quarter pace, running home his last three furlongs in 425. Harvest Moon (Cole) was given a couple of miles at a solid pace. Aga Khan (Edgecombe) was, given three-quarter pace work. Copey and Panloff" were allotted easy tasks and Onewhetu half-pace work.

On the outside of the course proper, and going from the seven furlongs post, the ■ Acre—Rapt two-year-old (Chelt) anJ Puroto (Duncan) galloped four furlongs in 555, the former finishing well in front. Going from the same mark Fairfax (Duncan) sprinted a similar journey in a shade under 525, doing her work very attractively. Waitaunaha and Gold Gleam did halfpace work. Waitaunaha is keeping sound. Gold Gleam has freshened; considerably. Both horses are looking in capital order. Gold Gleam’s efforts in future will be confined to sprint' racing. The Ruapapa'gelding. Ruaform promises to be a decided acquisition to the jumpers. Given a turn over a couple of jumps yesterday morning he made a very favourable impression. Ruaform is an ideal type for the jumping business. He has shown ability on the flat and in the hunting field and appears to be able to carry weight. Yet another aspirant for hurdle honours is the ex-Aucklander Soloist in J. Fryer’s stable, who was given his initial schooling yesterday morning. A good looking thoroughbred Soloist shaped well for a novice.
