Mrs. Morton, Wellington, is Staying with her daughter, Mrs. G. A. Duncan. Mrs. John Stewart has returned from Wanganui.

Mrs. Drew was hostess at tea on Wedresday afternoon, when Mesdames Denys, P. 0. Veale, W. W. Gibson, W. W. Thomas and N. F. Stead were her guests. Mrs. Gibson and Mrs. Drew’s daughter, Miss Merle Adamson, sang duets, and Miss Adamson, sang solos.

On Wednesday a team of six croquet players from the Park club met a team of six from the Hawera club at the Hawera lawns in a friendly match, when each of the visiting Park‘players won, though in some cases by very small margins.

Mrs. L. H. Can-ell, who was Mrs. Harding’s guest last week, left on Friday for Wellington, sailing on the Wanganella on Monday for Sydney, en route to Townsville, Northern Queensland. Her daughter Eriift is going north with her, but Mr. Charlie Carrell has accepted, a position at Melbourne.

When Mrs. C. Goodson was hostess at tea last Saturday afternoon Mesdames D. G. Smart, G. A. Burgess, A. T. Wills, A. K. North and C. Bayley were her guests. The hostess wore a deep blue flat crepe gown lightly relieved in white, and- her daughter, Miss Geraldine, was frocked in a tri-coloured spun crepedr .-‘/'tie.

Sister Nicholson, who is to be married shortly, was. recently the recipient of a beautifully worked white satin coathanger, Mrs. Shaw making the presentation on behalf of the members of the Turitown Women’s Institute. Miss Nicholson is the first of the institute members to be married.

Wearing a beautifully cut gown of magnolia white imprinted mattalasSe, Mrs. J. Thomson received a number of friends to play bridge at her home in Egmont Street on Saturday evening, when the honours for highest scores were won by Mrs. R. A. Harvey and Mr. W. W. Thomas. The guests present included Mesdames A. F. Excell, W. M. Egglestone, P. 0. Veale, W. W. Thomas, Harvey and Miss Thomas. The members of the committee and a few supporters of Everybody’s baby in the. recent Plunket carnival met recently at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Antoni Bonetti, the parents of the candidate, Baby Antoni, as a final wind-up to their activities, when the secretary, Mr. R. R. Henderson, presented the bal-ance-sheet, at the same time thanking all helpers, in particular. Mrs. Bonetti, who was one of. the most energetic workers on the committee, and who had given her home for committee meetings, etc. Many impromptu .items were enjoyed. They were given by Miss Joy Winks (monologues), Mrs. P. O. Veale (pianoforte solo). Mr. and Mrs. R. S. AUwright (songs), Mr. and Mrs. Simpson (duet), and Mrs. Bonetti and Miss Joy Durham (pianoforte duet). Not the least enjoyable were the choir items, particularly the Male Choir, under Mr. Allwright’s conductorship. Community singing was also popular. “Bathroom” Gift Party.

Wearing a smartly cut striped crepe-de-chine frock in tones of powder and Venetian blue and the new Bois de Rose, with split hem-line, sleeves and bodice attractively finished with TOWS Of buttons, Miss Geraldine Goodson entertained a number of guests at tea on Wednesday afternon in Miss Mary Hawken’s honour, when each guest brought a bathroom gift for the bride-to-be. Miss Hawken wore a light woollen ensemble in nigger brown afghalaine, with a neatbrimmed brown felt hat. The decorations consisted of beautiful blooms of dahlias, stately zinnias in rich autumn Shades and, an idea rather novel and appropriate, buds of real Orange blossom. Mrs. A. Spratt, Mrs. I. Rota and Misses Mickey Hawken, A. Wills, A. Kemp, R. Pease, S. Lovell, M. Bright, E. Buist, J. Powdrell, M. Washer, C. Tonics, K, Coleman, B. Ryan, M. Black and M. Hutton (Wanganui) were the other guests present at tea.
