GIRL GUIDE PARTY
IMPRESSIVE CEREMONIALS. DISPLAYS, EXHIBITIONS, GAMES. Hegifining ; with t the impressive breaking of'the colours and the march past and finishing . with the hauling of the colours, a successful garden party was held on Saturday afternoon at St. Mary’s vicarage by the New Plymouth Girl Guides. Four companies, Mananui, Tuahine, Temara and Waitara, and two brownie companies, Temara and Tuahine,* were present under the command of the district captain, Mrs. W. Jarvis.
Mrs. D. K.' Morrison, provincial commissioner/'with Miss C. M. Berridge, district commissioner, and Miss E. J. Harris, divisional commissioner, accepted the salute. Games, displays and competitions occupied the afternoon. Both brownie troops gave items,.Mananui gave an exhibition of wand drill, Tuahine one special display and the formation of flags and Temara a drill display. All the guides joined in a friendship ’ maze. Those in charge of the various stalls and games were: Produce, Tuahine committee, Mesdames I. Hodges, T. Charters, M.. Julian, E. Aifd and W. H. Huggett; ice cream and' sweets, Mananui committee, Mesdames R. J. Deare, L. Harris, H. C. Rutter, A. Woods, A. E. Wiggins; afternoon "tea, Temara committee, Mesdames L. Chivers, R. Kibby, A. Harvey and A. Read; clock golf, Mrs. C. D. Costello and Miss M. O’Sullivan; picture gallery, Mrs. W. Jarvis. Winners of competitions were: Clock golf, Miss Newton-Mayes; guessing for box of chocolates, Miss Newton-Mayes; guessing for baby’s jacket, Mrs. Martin; guide race, Waitara 1 and 2, Mananui 3; relay; Tuahine 1, Waitara 2, Mananui 3.
