BIGAMY ADMITTED
CASE AT PALMERSTON NORTH. MEETING AT NEW PLYMOUTH. By Telegraph-Press Association. Palmerston N., Last Night. William Frank Lionel George Brown, aged 37, a salesman, admitted a charge of bigamy in the Magistrate’s Court today and pleaded guilty to making a false declaration for the purpose of securing a registrar’s certificate. His wife gave evidence that Brown married her at Onehunga in September, 1920, and there were three children. Brown deserted her in 1926 and she secured a guardianship and maintenance order. Her first knowledge of his bigamy was when the police informed her. The other woman in the case said she met Brown in June last at New Plymouth, when he said his name was Gray and that he had been divorced many years. She married him at Palmerston North in November, 1934. A clerk in the registrar’s office said Brown gave the name of Gray, declaring himself a bachelor.
Brown was sent to the Supreme Court for sentence.
