Miss Zena Batten will spend the weekend at New Plymouth and will be the guest of Mrs. Sidney Ward.

Mrs. L. Wynyard entertained a few friends on Wednesday afternoon. Mrs. W. Shaw has returned after a visit to Auckland. Mrs. J. Lyons was a bridge hostess on Friday afternoon.

Mrs. Peploe, Dannevirke, is visiting Stratford, and is the guest of her mother, Mrs. Blick. Mrs. T. Short left this week by car for a holiday visit to Napier. Mrs. W. Wiggins, who has been spending a holiday at Te Awamutu, has returned to Stratford. Miss K. New is holiday-making at Tauranga.

Mrs. F. Alger has removed to New Plymouth. Mrs. G. Pugh is holiday-making at Auckland.

Mrs. Evetts is visiting Mrs. F. Francis. Mrs. E. L. Masters has returned from a visit to New Plymouth. Miss Molly McMillan left on Tuesday for a visit to Dunedin. Miss Johnston is a holiday visitor to Auckland.

Mrs. Baker has returned to Stratford after a holiday visit to. Auckland. Mrs. F. Anderson, who has been visiting her relatives at Mercury Bay and Tauranga, has returned home. Mrs. McLeod, Mercury Bay, is visiting Stratford and is the guest of her granddaughter, Mrs.' Anderson. Mrs Dimes has returned from a holiday at Wanganui. Mrs. L. Davis is spending a few days with her mother, Mrs. Newland. Mr. and Mrs. H. E. Vaughen are the guests of Mrs. L. Futrie. Mrs. P. Thomson was “at home” to friends on Wednesday and Friday afternoons.

Mrs. Mann, Pukerua Bay, paid a short visit to Stratford during the week and was the guest of her sister, Mrs,. Seddon.

Miss I. McCready will return on Monday from a holiday visit to the Bay of Islands.

Mrs. L. Rudings, Onehunga, is visiting her aunt, Mrs. Sanson. Mrs. Ramsay, Christchurch, was a visitor to Stratford during the week. Mrs. and Miss M. Washer, Hawera, were visitors to Stratford for the Campbeli Cup ’semi-finals. Mrs. F. Bowler gave an afternoon for friends on Monday. Miss Joyce Whitmill will leave on Monday for Tauranga, where she has accepted a position. Mrs. H. E. Nowell, Ngaere, is Mrs. J. R. Corrigan’s guest at the Oaks, Hawera, for a week.

Misses K. Hickey, Normanby, and G. Harcourt, Eltham, left during the week for a holiday at Napier.

Mrs. J. Hickey paid a brief visit to Auckland last week.

Mrs. A. J. Kjestrup,, Nukahakere, is the guest of Mrs. J. K. Law, Kohuratahi.

An evening was spent at the residence of Miss Franklind on Wednesday, when a surprise party for Miss Mary Lewers was held. A presentation was made by Miss T. Sharrocks on behalf of those present. The sisters of Mrs. Walter Fastier, Stratford, Mrs. G. F. Lomas, Wanganui, and Miss Mary Samson, Dunedin, have been visiting Stratford and New Plymouth.

Miss Julie Codd, who has been spending a holiday at Stratford as the guest of her aunt, Mrs. T. Short, returned to her Napier by car during the week.

Mrs. E. Batten gave an enjoyable bridge party at her residence on Wednesday evening, when three tables were in play.. Those present were Dr. and Mrs. Armstrong, Mr. and Mrs. J. Boon, Mr. and Mrs. G. Carter, Mr. and Mrs. H. Cooper and Mr. and Mrs. N. H. Moss. The Portland Bridge Club was entertained by Mrs. L. H. Jardine on Tuesday afternoon, when those present were Mesdames J. Spence, D. Malone, A. Coleman, J. Lyons, D. Steven, L. Furrie and E. Jeffries.

Mrs. N. Douglas gave an enjoyable afternoon on Thursday for a number of her friends, some of those present being Mesdames W. Farquarson, E, McCullough, Misses J. Coleman, 0. Masters, M. Malone, M. Whittle,. R. Furrie, C. Uniacke and N. Thorpe. Mrs. L. J. Rowell gave an “at home” on Thursday afternoon, when her guests were Mesdames Carey (Masterton), A. Budge, L. J. Furrie, D. Shannon (Cardiff), P. Marchant (Cardiff), D. McLean, W. Brown, S. Porritt, A. Hugo, P. Thomson, Misses B. Thomson and Woods. Those present at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. A. Cook on Wednesday evening for the coming-of-age of their son Frank included Mesdames Cook, Purchase, Speck, Mclsaacs, Misses D. and V. Cook, C. Pratt, E. Aitken, J. Elgar, M. Ferguson, M. Elgar, L. Bourke, P. Sanderson, F. Dwyer, A. Bourke, N. McIsaac, G. Brown, E. Mclsaac. Mrs. L. J. Rowell was “at home” to friends on Thursday afternoon. Mesdames P. Marchant and R. Tyrer gave instrumental and vocal items. Among the guests were Mesdames P. Thomson, D. McLean, A. Budge, Carey (Masterton), S. Porritt, W. Brown, A. Hugo, L. J. Furrie, R. Tyrer, D. Shannon, P. Marchant and the Misses Woods and Beth Thomson.

The Huinga Tennis Club ball on Tuesday evening was a great success, the hall being crowded with dancers. The winners of the waltzing competition were: Mrs. Mayhead and Mr. Gooch, while the Monte Carlo foxtrot was won by Miss Neilson and partner. Some of the ladies present were Mesdames A.
