WAITARA SPORTS

APPOINTMENT OF OFFICIALS. A well attended commitee meeting of the Waitara Athletic, Cycle and Axemen’s Club was held on Thursday night to arrange matters in connection with the sports on April 11. Mr. Roy Yardley presided. Three new members were elected to the conunitte. Correspondence was received from the Waitara Seaside Tennis Club asking the sports club to join with it and the band in conducting a queen carnival. Messrs. Yardley and T. Fowler were appointed to attend the meeting and discuss matters with the tennis club. committee. Approval was received from the New Zealand Cycle Union for the two mites New Zealand cycle championship to be run at the Waitara sports. The matter of ordering blocks for the chopping events was left in the hands of the chairman and secretary. Officials appointed for the sports day were: Judges, Messrs. L. W. Birdlirig, V. Tate, F. Loveridge and H. Levestam; marksmen, Messrs. J. R. Bennett, R. Grant, A. Collins and J. Priar; block stewards, Messrs. W. Gray, H. Lowe, Jim Johnston and L. G. Andrews; starters, track events, Mr. T. D. Fowler; chopping, Mr. Fred Spurdie; result steward, Mr. L. H. Sampson; protest committee, the referee, secretary, Mr. T. Fowler arid Mr. E. Spurdle; call steward, Mr. V. Penman; gatekeepers (competitors), Mr. W. Lowe; other gates, Messrs. A. J. Arms, J. Barras, T. Taylor, E. W. Procter and W; Yardley; lap steward, Mr. Roy Yardley; timekeeper, Mr. E. Spurdle; mess steward, Mr. A. Hawkins; chip stewards, Messrs. C. Finnerty, I. Moller, J. Limmer and three others to be appointed; referees, Messrs T Kirkwood and T. B. Fowler. It was decided that the New Plymouth League Cycle Club be asked to lend its cycle plates. A request, is to be made to the Railway Department to have trains going south delayed on the sports day. Messrs. E. W. Procter and T. Taylor were elected to fill two vacancies on the executive.
