DOG TRIALS OPEN

WHANGAMOMONA ANNUAL EVENT. LONG HEAD TO W. V. MdNTYRE. The Whangamomona annual dog trials opened yesterday on the property of Messrs. Curry and Burch under ideal conditions. Large entries were received in all events, representing all the noted Taranaki sheep trial dogs, as well as numerous Whangamomona district competitors. Splendid progress was made, the long head being completed and a start made with the short head. The work was of a high standard, the judge, Mr. Marsden Scott, Waverley, remarking that it was,the most even he had ever seen. This was shown by the fact that of the 32 dogs that competed only five failed to complete the course and the lowest points secured by any of the others were 33, or 66 per cent., while the highest was 48} points. The winner was Mr. W. V. Mclntyre’s Cruachan. Results yesterday were:— Head, pull and hold in ring. About 400 yards; time 10m. Points, pull 22, head 22, ring 6, total 50. W. V.
