RESEARCH BURSARY
GIFT OF MR. G. SHIRTCLIFFE. TRUST FUND OF £20,000 SET UP. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Match 13. An announcement that a university fellowship research scholarship and bursary had been established by Mf. George Shirtcliffe, retiring chairman of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research, was made yesterday by the Governor-General, Lord Bledisloe, during his speech at a complimentary farewell luncheon tendered him by both Houses of Parliament. The gifts are in the form of a deed of trust to the amount of £20,000. The gift has been Vested in the University of New Zealand, which will administer the trust, but awards will be made by a committee of five as follows: The Governor-General, the Chief Justice or a judge of the Supreme Court nominated by the Chief Justice, the Bishop of Wellington, a member of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research to be nominated by that body, and a nominee of the University Senate The sum at the disposal of the committee Will be approximately £BOO a year, and bursaries will become operative in February, 1936. Provision has been made for the value of each or any bursary to be adjusted according to the financial circumstances Of the recipient.
