DEPRESSED AREAS
PROGRESS OF WORK SCHEMES. GENEROSITY OF DUNDEE MAN. (British Official Wireless). Rec. 5.5 p.m. Rugby, March 12. It was announced in the House of Commons that the Commissioner for Special Areas in Scotland had been already authorised to spend approximately £106,000 on schemes of work in distressed districts. Other schemes were under active consideration. The Scottish Department of Agriculture has received a free gift from a prominent resident of Dundee, Mr. Mathews, of 188 acres of farm land as well as a trust fund amounting to about £30,000 and other gifts, making a total of over £50,000, for the purpose of settling on the Land unemployed men from Dundee.
