PRECOCIOUS’ESCAPADE
SMALL BOYS BORROW CAR VEHICLE TAKEN FROM AUCKLAND. OBJECT TO SEE WAIKATO FRIENDS. WIDESPREAD SEARCH BY POLICE. By Telegraph—Press Association. Auckland, Last Night. A precocious escapade by two Auckland schoolboys, aged only 12 and 11 years, was revealed following a widespread and successful search by police for a motor-car which was removed from the city. The vehicle was recovered by the Huntly police, who also detained the boys. The car-, a small English sedan model, had been parked in Khyber Pass by its owner on Wednesday evening. The owner found the vehicle had been removed and he quickly notified his loss to the police. Later in the evening the police received reports that two boys were absent from their homes, but their disappearance was not then connected with the missing car. No word of the car was received until early this morning, when Constable Walton, Huntly, found the car abandoned by the roadside. Further searching led to the detention of two boys who were walking southward along the main road. The boys were little fatigued, although they showed very natural hunger. From the account given to the police the boys had been intent on travelling to visit gome friends in the Waikato district a considerable distance beyond Hamilton.
