VICAR AT BELL BLOCK

WELCOME OF PARISHIONERS. A social was held at Bell Block on Thursday evening to welcome the new vicar, the Rev. G. W. G. Griffin, and Mrs. Griffin. There was a good attendance, Archdeacon and Mrs. Evans and Archdeacon Gavin being present. Mr. J. D. Aitken introduced Mr', and Mrs. Griffin to the gathering and also called on Archdeacon Evans and Archdeacon Gavin for a few words of introduction. Archdeacon Evans, in his usual happy manner, spoke of the work of the parish and the churches, and hoped Mr. and Mrs. Griffin would be very happy in their new church. Archdeacon Gavin praised the beautiful furnishing of St. Luke’s Church and the feeling of holiness that always seemed to be present within. Mr. Griffin thanked all who had been responsible for the organising of such a successful evening. He was very pleased to have such an opportunity of meeting so many members of the church. He hoped they would all be able to work together happily. A short musical programme was presented during the evening as follows:— Pianoforte solo, Mrs. W. Hoskin; solo, Mrs. W. Holmes; musical monologue, Mrs. French; solo, Mrs. F. Holmes; recitation, Mrs. Evans; solo, Miss N. French; solo, Mr. Aitken. Accompaniments were played by Mrs. F. Holmes, Mrs. Oman and Miss Aitken. Supper was served by members of St. Luke’s Guild, under the supervision of Mrs. J. H. Street, after which dancing was enjoyed to music played by Mesdames W. Hoskin and Erskine and Mr. Aitken.
