PRIVATE CAPITAL
MORTGAGE CORPORATION BILL. PROTEST BY FARMERS’ UNION. A protest against private shareholder capital being included in the mortgage corporation was made by the South Taranaki executive of the Farmers’ Union yesterday. The resolution was moved by Mr. J. S. Tosland, who said he was definitely against the inclusion of private share capital. The discussion arose when the accounts of the recent rally at Hawera were being considered The secretary, Mr. E. K. Cameron, reported that in reply to several telegrams giving the resolution passed at the rally and sent to several members of Parliament, the first reply had been received from the Leader of the Opposition; Mr. M. J. Savage. “I am not a Labour man and I have no sympathy with the Labour Party, said Mr. H. J. Findlay, “but it does seem that the Labour Party is the only one that has the farmers’ interests at heart. Farmers protested against the Transport Bill, the Reserve Bank Bill and the Agricultural Emergency Bill, but all three were passed. The Government is a virtual dictatorship and the next election will be fraught with many issues.”
