OMATA BEATS HURFORD ROAD. W. HANOVER MAKES 62. RUNS. Playing on Mr. A. J. Lux tons property, Omata easily defeated the Hurford Road cricket team during the week-end. Hurford batted first and made 68 runs, Omata replying with 150 runs. In a second innings Hurford made 56 for four wickets. Both teams played ten men. M. Sutcliffe 31 and W. The Turoto cricket team visited Matiere on Sunday and played the first match in the third round of the competition. Batting first, Turoto was dismissed for 33 runs. Matiere replied with 110 runs, C. Stack (41), H. Fauchelle (24) and W. Ritchie (13). When stumps were drawn at 4 o’clock Turoto had scored 44 runs for seven wickets in the second innings, T. Ryan (13 not out) and P. LEAD OF FIVE POINTS GAINED. Several members of the Matiere Cricket Club played for the Ongarue eleven at Taringamotu on Saturday. Batting first Taringamotu occupied the crease for three hours before declaring with 107 runs for six wickets. The scoring rate was very slow, J. Hearfield (Ongarue) bowling 18 overs for 12 maidens and taking one wicket for 19 runs. E. Fauchelle secured the best average with fom wickets for 24 runs. With only 50 minutes left to bat, Ongarue scored 83 runs for the loss of two wickets, J. Delaney (46 not out), J. Hearfield (15 not out) and L. Blake (14. As the result of the draw Ongarue is now leading by five points in the competition and has virtually won it, there being only one more match to play. For the last two seasons Ongarue has been runner-up. MATCH AT HURWORTH. ■ WIN FOR “B.O.B.” ELEVEN. The “8.0J3.” cricket team played Hurworth at Hurworth and won by eight runs. “B.O.B.” batted' first for 56 runs, Stewart (21) and V. Carroll (19) being the* only double-figure scorers. R. King (six wickets for 18 runs) was the best bowler. Hurworth replied with 41 runs, E. Newman (14). D. Morris (six wickets for 15 runs including the “hat trick”) took most wickets. In the second innings Phillips (“B.O.B.”) made 20 and Des Forges (13) carried the score to 58. V. Dravitski took five wickets for 17 runs. Hurworth made 65 in the second innings. R.
