TIKORANGI CHURCH FAIR

DISTRICT PERSONAL ITEMS. On Thursday the Tikorangi Church of England held a successful gala day. Owing to the cold wind, lunch which was to have been under the trees was . in the hall. An ice cream and soft drink stall, supervised by Misses I. Foreman and J. Paulger, did brisk business as did a jumble stall conducted by Mrs. A. Whitehead and Miss K. Fault. . Competitions resulted: Goose given by Mrs. C. Sarten, Mr. Reg. Jury; peaches given by Mrs. J. Paulger, Mrs. A. Foreman; box of chocolates given by Mr. W. L Faull, Mrs. A. Crawford; sucking pig given by Mr .A. Alexander, Mrs. Roy Sarten; box of chocolates given by MrE. Waters (Waitara), Mr. T. Hine. ‘Sports were held in Faulls paddock adjoining the hall, where also a crash’em” side show conducted by Messrs. G. Foreman and R. McKenzie caused fun. A stepping the chain contest was won by Mr. V. Foreman. Children’s races run by Messrs. Reg. Jury, T. Hine, J. Paulger, A. Soffe and Anderson were conducted during the afternoon, the following being the results: Small girls, M. Allen 1, E. Johnson 2, V. Lye 3; small boys, A. Hine 1, E. Soffe 2, K. Tamati 3; girls, E. Tamati 1, M. Lye 2, J. Sarten 3; big girls, J. Garner 1, M. Moa 2, M. Bennett 3; small boys’ No. 2, T. Paul 1. S. Tamati and R. Allen equal 2; boys, J. Bennett 1, P. Moa 2, B. Langley 3; old boys, D. Yearbury 1, R. Langley 2 C. Hills 3; girls’ three-legged race, M. Moa and. M. Bennett 1, M. Sarten and- A. Tamati 2; boys’ three-legged race, D. Yearbury and C. Hills 1, L. Jury and R. Langley 2; small girls, one to two, J. Sarten 1, V. Lye and M. Anderson equal 2; consolation races, girls T. Allen 1, I. O’Carrol 2, D. Hine 3, boys E. Tate 1, G..Toft 2. S. Soffe 3. , , The gathering concluded with a dance in the evening, Rowe s orchestra playing the dance music, and Mr. R. McKenzie and A. E. Smith carrying out thd duties of masters of ceremonies, while an extra was played by Mr. D. Hills. A Monte Carlo dance was won by Miss Jean Paulger and Mr. R. McKenzie. Euchre was played in the supper room, the prizes being won by Mrs. C Foreman 1; hidden number, Mrs. A. Soffe; Mr. H. Sarten 1, hidden number, Mr. K. Lye. As a result of this effort the church should benefit by about £2O. Mrs. T. A. Pruden is in the New Plymouth hospital. Miss J. Morey was a visitor to New Plymouth last week-end as the guest of Mrs. Patrick. Mrs. A. H. Foreman is a patient in a New Plymouth private hospital. Miss D.
