NEW BATTLESHIPS
DECISION MADE IN FRANCE. REPLY TO ITALIAN ACTIVITY. By Telegraph—Press . Assn.—Copyright Rec. 7 p.m. London, March 2. The French Government is expected to prepare for the early construction of a capital ship of 35,000 tons in addition to the two battlecruisers now being constructed, says the Paris correspondent of the Times. Permission may be sought to build a second capital ship in 1937. The decision results from Italy persisting in the construction of two 25,000ton ships and American and Japanese shipbuilding activity. The new French capital ships will probably be super dreadnoughts, resembling the Rodney, replacing the obsolete Jeanbart and Courbet.
