DR. McEVEDY DEAD

PROMINENT RUGBY FIGURE. NEW ZEALAND UNION PRESIDENT. By Telegraph—Prew Association. Wellington, March 2. The death has occurred of Dr. P. F. McEvedy, president of the New Zealand Rugby Union, and a prominent figure also in boxing and racing circles. Dr. McEvedy was born at Southbridge, Canterbury, and was educated at St. Patrick’s College, completing his studies at Guy’s Hospital, London. He became captain of the celebrated Guy’s fifteen, and was a member of the 1904 British team to Australia and New Zealand, and vice-captain of the Anglo-Welsh team that toured in 1908. He commenced practice at Wellington in 1909 and ever since had been prominently connected with Rugby management. He also took part in cricket, and for a long period was a vice-president of the Wellington Cricket Association. He took a keen interest in boxing, being a member of the Wellington Association and president of the New Zealand Council, and in racing and other sports. He was a director of several business concerns.
