WAGE RESTORATION REQUEST. OWNERS SUGGEST A DELAY. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington Feb. 24. At a conference held at Wellington this week to consider a request for the restoration of the 10 per cent, cut in coal miners’ wages made by delegates of the National Council of United Mine Workers of New Zealand, representatives of the Coal Mine Owners’ Association, referring to the depressed condition of the industry and losses made by a number of companies, suggested that the unions allow the question of a new agreement to stand over for six months from March. The men’s delegates will place the owners’ proposals before their unions.
