The course proper, with the flags well out, was open, and the fast work took place there. Chief Marionette strode over a mile and a-quarter at a steady three-quarter pace. She has come through her recent racing in good style. Ringside and Gold Mission were allotted a working gallop over five furlongs. Ythan, who has made a great recovery from the injuries received when he fell over Gowanlea at the Taranaki meeting, was given easy work. Refresher and Merry V7ay were on terms at the conclusion of five furlongs in lm. 535. Both hit out freely on the easy track. Amyril and Tahurangi did easy tasks. Aussie Ra and Davistock were associated over a circuit at three-quarter pace. R. Johnson has this pair in good order. General Quex covered a circuit at a good three-quarter pace, the last five furlongs occupying lm. 9Js. Bonny Glow, Red Fox, Golden Rill and a Potoa gelding carried out tasks of a useful variety
