ANNUAL MEETING OF BRANCH.

ELECTION OF OFFICERS. The first meeting of the year of the Ohura sub-branch of the Teachers’ Institute was held in the Ohura school on Saturday when there was a good attendance. Several teachers new to the district were welcomed.

Mr. C. Baunton gave an outline of the work Sone during the year. Ten meetings were held, those in the early part of the year being chiefly to arrange sports programmes. The Ohura school won both the football and basketball competitions, while a seven-a-side football tournament was won by the Matiere school. Several lectures were given by teachers on topics pi interest to the teaching profession. Towards the end of the year, Mr. A. Bain, senior inspector, gave an address to members of the institute and Mr. D. Mackay, senior agricultural instructor, gave a lecture on agriculture. At the final meting of the year five members of the North Taranaki institute visited Ohura and gave an address on the work of the institute. The president of the branch (Mr. W. Landy), the secretary (Mr. Marshall) and a number of members had left the district on transfer, a farewell gathering being given them. The election of officers resulted as follows: President, Mr. Tunnicliff; vicepresidents, Miss Butcher and Mr. C. Baunton; secretary and treasurer, Mr. Howarth;; executive committee, Miss Laurenson and Messrs. R. Julian and H. Sinclair; auditor, Mr. A. Sampson. It was decided to hold meetings of the institute on the first Saturday of each month.
