SURF CHAMPIONSHIPS
ARRANGEMENTS COMPLETED. ARRIVAL OF VISITING TEAMS. A meeting of members of New Plymouth surf clubs was held last night to complete the arrangements for the New Zealand championships to be h&ld at FitzrOy next week-end. Mr. A. Ross, the Taranaki centre’s delegate on the New Zealand Surf Council, expressed that body’s appreciation of the thorough preparations that had been made. He felt stir a this year’s event would set a precedent that other centres would find it hard to maintain. He appealed to all to do their best to make the visitors welcome. Mr. M. Smale paid a tribute to the work of Mr. RosS, who he said had proved hirnself a live man and had always kept Taranaki interests well in the foreground. After a general discussion those present were allotted their various duties and the necessary explanations were made by the secretary, Mr. R. Perkins. The first of the visitors are expected to arrive by train to-night. Others will arrive on Friday morning and evening and the remainder by a special train from Auckland on Saturday morning.
