REPRESENTATIONS FROM NELSON. ADMISSION OF FIVE-YEAR-OLDS. By Telegraph—Press Association. Nelson; Last Night. The Nelson Education Board has decided to renew representations regarding the re-admission of five-year-olds into into public schools. The question of the desirability of the Inspectors’ general reports on school teachers being submitted to school committees was also discussed by the board. It was pointed out that frequently those reports gave a different impression than given by the confidential reports submitted to the board, and members expressed the opinion that reports to committees should contain reference only to matters directly controlled by the committees. The chairman, Mr. W. M. Mclntyre, and the secretary were appointed to interview the Minister, the Hon. S. G. Smith. , In reply to the representations by the board, the Minister stated that the proposed amended regulations would include provision whereby any child of 14 years about to leave school would be given the opportunity of sitting for proficiency.
