KITCHENER’S DEATH
GERMAN WRITER’S ALLEGATION. SAYS HE WAS RESPONSIBLE. By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright. Rec. 10 p.m. London, Feb. 12. There is mystery about a book published in Germany by Ernst Carl entitled “One Against England,” in which the writer claims that he was responsible for the sinking of the Hempshire and the death of Lord Kitchener. Herr Carl says that posing as a Belgian officer on leave he secured an interview with Kitchener on the subject of old furniture. Kitchener, who was a collector, agreed to give his decision “before my Russian visit.”
Herr Carl, learning that the Hampshire was being overhauled at Belfast, says he got Sinn Feiners to place time bombs in the ammunition magazine of the ship. The Daily Express says that as a result of its own investigations the story should be treated with reserve. In the meantime if is stated that the book has been suppressed in Germany.
