HOURLY DANGER
CABINET LEADERSHIP MR. RAMSAY MACDONALD RESIGNATION POSSIBILITY WOULD BE NO SURPRISE SPLIT IN CONSERVATIVES By Telegraph—Press Assn. —Copyright. London, Feb. 11. Mr. Ramsay MacDonald’s leadership is hourly in greater jeopardy. It would not be surprising if his resignation is shortly announced, accompanied by a reconstruction of the Government. An election before 1930 is most unlikely, it is thought, as Mr. MacDonald’s resignation would save the Government and reunite the majority of the Conservatives, although not Mr. Winston Churchill’s supporters. Mr. Lloyd George’s inclusion in the Cabinet is unlikely, according to the latest reports, because he would irrevocably split the Conservatives. There is a strong possibility of Mr. Malcolm MacDonald’s promotion to the Cabinet, by which the National-Labour balance in the Ministry would be retained. The overwhelming majority on the second reading of the Government of India Bill sufficiently answers the absurd suggestion that it should be withdrawn and recast to please the Conservatives, says the Tijnes in a leader. “Mr. Baldwin is clearly ot rattled by the clamour for a radical change in the Government’s personnel and policy,” the paper adds. “He is unlikely to yield to a sudden impulse, although there is no reason to think he is not profoundly convinced of the necessity for Cabinet reconstruction sooner or later—certainly long before the Government appeals to the country.’’
