HAWKES BAY SCHOOL HOURS.
BOARD ISSUES INSTRUCTION.

The executive committee of the Hawkes Bay Education Board decided to-day that as from Monday, February 18, schools m the Hawkes Bay district will revert to the normal hours of attendance. Each head teacher will have the authority, however, in conjunction with the c h a Js" man of his school committee to close his school on the afternoon, of a very hot In towns where there are more than one school the board recommends uniform action. This, of course, may not always be necessary or desirable. Conditions in the older type school not so well ventilated as a modern school may be such as would justify closing, whereas closing might not be necessary in the modern type of school. The board, feels sure that the head teacher and the chairman of his school committee will exercise wise discretion. The board has also decided to recommend that all outside assemblies of children should be of the shortest possible duration during the hot weather. Already cases have come under notice where children have fainted although they were standing in line for only a few minutes.
