BEARS OPEN APPEARANCE
POMP HAS THE CLASS After his recent winning form at Trentham Aiguille appeared to have a form “mortgage” On the Whareroa Handicap, and his rather surprising defection leaves to-day’s event at Hawera with an open appearance. Despite his recent failures Pomp is still the best performed horse in the race, but Mr. G. M. Currie’s gelding will need to improve upon his Taranaki Cup running to have a winning chance. However, in the past Pomp has shown that he, is seldom guilty of running two races alike, and if he can produce true form to-day his class may tell at the finish. Alloy can usually be relied upon to run solidly when the company is mediocre class, while Midian should be worthy of respect if he has regained the form he showed earlier in the spring. Neither Chief Marionette nor Glenvane quite ran up to holiday form at New Plymouth, but both are capable of making better showings at Hawera. Bonnie Vale figures in the Nolan Cup, and that race is likely to be her mission.
