HAWERA CANDIDATES

PREPARATIONS FOR TRENTHAM. GOOD GALLOPING YESTERDAY. Glorious conditions prevailed for training operations at the Hawera racecourse yesterday. The plough was used and was in capital order. Attractive work was performed by the Trentham candidates, Fersen, Silver Wings, Friesland and Arouse. Silver Wings showed a lot of improvement on her previous gallop and on her final work on Thursday her trip to Wellington will depend. Arouse (Cole) was sent five furlongs alone. Going slowly away, he took Im 5s and failed to put the usual dash into his work. Aga Khan (Edgecombe) and Diagano (Cole) galloped four furlongs in 50 is, after covering the first two furlongs in 2515. Aga Khan finished a head in front but both horses went very. well. Silk Sox (Feasey) and Onewhetu (Cotter) did a strong working gallop over a mile. Onewhetu worked very pleasingly but Silk Sox a bit stiffly. The best effort of the morning was performed by Carfex (Cole) and Silver Wings (Feasey) in a gallop over five furlongs. Dashing away smartly, the two furlongs was reached in 245, three in 361 s and the five completed in Im 2Js. Carfex finished a long neck in front. Harvest Moon (Conway) was restricted to three-quarter pace work. Autumn Leaf (Mills) went nicely over four furlongs in 51-ls. The maiden, Careful (Cole) finished in front of Exquisite (Fearn) in a sprint over three furlongs in 38s. Cox's pair Friesland (Grylls) and Fersen (Coyle) hurried up from the five furlongs post to run the first three furlongs in 361 s and complete the five in Im 3s, with Fersen a shade in front. Fersen looks vastly improved by his racing. Ingenuity (Fearn), Ruri (Cotter) and March Alone (Feasey) went over a round of solid work, Ingenuity and Ruri working pleasingly. Golden Hair looks greatly benefited by her recent spell and is working regularly. Judging by her appearance, she should not take long to reach racing condition. Lady Eka, who sustained an injury while being loaded for Stratford, has recovered and, although the blemish is still there, she is working again. Colossal was given strong pace work over a round. St. Clara, who has been having an easy time since the Stratford meeting, has started earnest work again.
