BOXING TITLE HELD
MARCEL THIL BEATS McAVOY. FRENCHMAN’S VIGOROUS ATTACK. By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright. London, Jan. 14. In a 15-round bout for the European cruiser-weight championship Marcel Thil (holder) outpointed Jock McAvoy (England). McAvoy pressed in the opening rounds. Thil forced the pace in the fourth, severely punishing his opponent with right and left hooks. He continued scoring with body blows. McAvoy rallied in the seventh, fiercely sending in a left. Much in-fighting resulted, and Thil’s ear began to bleed in the ninth. McAvoy by superior footwork evaded the danger zone. Thil in the tenth jumped out from his corner and sent McAvoy to the ropes with a sbries of hooks to the body. He maintained a vigorous attack throughout the round, resulting in the Englishman weakening, after which he fought gamely but was unable to stall off the Frenchman's sledge-hammer body blows, by which he was sent down twice in the fourteenth round and was saved by the gong at the count of five. Thil was triumphantly aggressive in the fifteenth.
