STORE BURGLED
, THEFTS FROM SHOP AT PATEA. ENTRANCE THROUGH SKYLIGHT. Gaining access through an open skylight, burglars entered the Taranaki Chain Stores at Patea at the week-end and removed goods to the value of £2O. The articles taken were all men’s wearing apparel. The discovery was not made until Monday morning, when the employees returned to work. It had been the practice at the store to leave a s'kylight open at the week-end because of its position in a high ceiling and the consequent difficulty in reaching the inside of the building. On Sunday morning a wire clothes line was found to be missing from adjoining premises and was later discovered in the Taranaki Chain Stores. Apparently the intruders used the line to lower themselves into the building either late on Saturday night or early on Sunday morning. The premises had been entered and goods stolen on a previous occasion, although this is the first time access had been gained through the skylight.
