LAMB FOR THE KING
AUSTRALIA TO ENGLAND. ( goodwill messages sent. London, Dec. 18. The Agent-General for South Australia, Mi'. McCann, personally delivered the gift of lamb sent by the Governor of the State, Sir Winston Dugan, to the Master of the Household at Buckingham Palace and posted the accompanying Christmas card to the King. Australian goodwill messages, “spoken with lambs,” have been, broadcast to a far wider area even than the record figures indicate. They have reached members of the Royal Family, Indian princes, peers, members of the British Cabinet, the Archbishop of Canterbury and many other notable people. The people of Gresford,. who suffered great loss in a colliery explosion, the slums of large cities, the Barnardo Homes, hospitals and charity organisations will also receive gifts of lambs. Letters of appreciation of Australian generosity, of the efficiency of the distributing organisation and of the quality of the lambs are pouring in. An official of the Barnardo Homes, which received 60 lambs, expressed appreciation of the gifts, and added: “We have 8500 mouths to feed. I hope Australia will carry on the good work." The lambs for Gresford, 158 of which will arrive on Sunday, will be held until the New Year, so that their presentation shall not clash with the special local Christmas relief. The Mayor of Wrexham said: “It will be a good start for 1935. We will write to each of the 140 donors.”
