FANCY DRESS AT KAHUI

ENTERTAINMENT BY CHILDREN. The children of Kahui on Monday night held their annual prize-giving, which this year took the form of a children’s fancy dress party. Attractive costumes lent colour to the festive scene, and it was evident that the parents had Spared no pains in designing and making effective dresses. The first part of the evening was devoted to the children’s entertainment. Folk dances presented by junior and Be ni nr pupils were interspersed with lively games, while group singing, together with recitations by Frank Willcox and Ray Stockman, added variety to the programme. A novel feature as far as the children were concerned was the opening of a surprise pie, from which each child received a small gift. The chairman, Mr. M. Fleming, after congratulating the children on their year’s work, distributed gift books and certificates. Prizes for the calf-rearing competition were won by Jack Fisher, Ray Fleming and Lance Glentworth. Supper was dispensed by the committee members, after which Kathleen Annis, on behalf of the residents and children presented the teacher with a Christmas box. The rest of the evening was devoted to dancing for the adults, music being played by Mrs. Kitchingman, and Messrs. Keegan, Cullin, T. Norgate and R. Norgate. The accompaniments for the folk dances and singing were played by Mrs. Clemance.
