WAVERLEY CONCERT

LARGE ATTENDANCE OF PUBLIC. CHILDREN’S PRIZE-GIVING. There was a very large assemblage of parents and friends at the Waverley town hall on Tuesday night for the children’s concert and annual prize presenta-' tion in connection with the public school. The children’s items were presented during the first part of the programme and, were excellent, very much credit being due to the teachers who trained them. After a short interval Mr. Boyne, chairman of the school committee, referred to the work of Mrs. Fowler, who made the competition cake, and Mr. James, for icing it. Mr. Benefield said that at ’ Waverley there were 212 children on the roll and the average attendance was 208. Special thanks were given to Mrsi Flaherty, Who had given much of her time to training the sewing class. The dux medals were donated by the Rev. Gardiner and Mr, Bromiley. The Watts Allen Co. presented the following items,, melodies, Otto Schweers and Speed - Tappers; comedy number, Jim Scot; dramatic recital, Miss Edna Watts; Hungarian festival danco, George Allen; humorous song, Miss Zelaa Watts; dance, Misses Patty and Aniti Watts; comedy item, Jim Scot; combination club swinging and tap, Miss Marea Watte; dance, George Allen. Joan Hair, dux of the school, was caused on to decide a competition, which resulted in Mrs. Olds winning a cake. Personal News.

Mr. and Mrs. A. G. Wallace, Waverley, are visiting Wellington. On the eve of her departure from Waverley Mrs. McWilliam was the guest of honour at a small party given by Mrs. Gardiner at the vicarage on Tuesday afternoon. . « Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Gray, Miss Gray and Master L. Gray will leave at the week-end for Auckland. Miss Beryl Wallace left by car for Tauranga on Wednesday.
