OAONUI NEWS
MAORI MISSION CONCERT. The Oaonui Hall was well filled for the dance in aid of the Maori mission fund on Tuesday. Music was played by the New Plymouth Royal Maori String Band. Mrs. Webster played extras. A spot waltz was won by Mrs. Cruden and Mr. G. Harris, and a Monte Carlo waltz by Miss M. Hohia and Mr. T. Waiwiri. Mr. T. Okeroa entertained with songs. Competitions were won by Mr. Frank Billing and Miss Mona Butler. Supper was served by a committee supervised by Mrs. Butler. Mr. Butler was in charge of the ice-cream stay. Keen interest is being taken in the Oaonui tennis ladder. Results of matches played during the week, with challenges mentioned first, were:—Mrs. H. Henn lost to Miss Hessie Mitchell, 2—6; H. Henn lost to M. S. Quigley, 3—6; R. Hunia beat Quigley, 6—3; W. Roach lost to J. Tamatea, 6—B; T. Ratahi lost to J. Morehu, 2—6. Mrs. Frank Everest spent last weekend with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. Young, Kina Road. Mr. Gordon Morrison has taken a position at Matapu. Mr. and Mrs. H. Simps are now living on the Kina Road. Mr. B. Davey met with a painful accident while ploughing a few days ago, cutting the top of one finger completely off. Ensilage and hay-making operations are. now in full swing.
