Mrs. J. Houston is spending a holiday at North Egmont Mrs. Brewin, who has been visiting her daughter, Mrs. R. D. Speer, returned to Auckland this week. Miss I. Forsyth leaves on Saturday for Wanganui where she will undergo an operation in a private hospital. Mrs. Pickett was hostess at tea on Tuesday afternoon. Mesdames C. O. Pratt, J. C. Robb, G. Easton, J. H. Baker, C. S. Robb and R. S. Haybittie were her guests. Mrs. J. H. Easter, St. John’s Wood, London, who is making a tour of New Zealand, arrived last Wednesday from Rotorua, and is the guest of Mrs. T. York, Duthie, Road, Manaia. Miss E. Stacpoole, Auckland, arrived recently and will be the guest of Mrs. J. Hawken at Mokoia until Christmas. Mrs. J. D. McQuin, Feilding, returned home during the week after paying a brief visit to her mother, Mrs. Joll. Mrs. T. F. McKenzie returned on Tuesday, having spent a few weeks with her mother, Mrs. R. G. Bell, at Feilding. Mrs. Moorhouse leaves to-day to spend a week at Ohawe. Mesdames Arthur Coleman, G. J. Bayley, J. Hawken, W. O. Williams and W. G. Strange have been recent hostesses af tea. Miss Hunger returned to Manaia during the week-end after some months’ holiday in Australia, when Melbourne and Sydney were visited. Mrs. J. B. Rowe’s guest, Mrs. Curtis, returned to Wanganui on Thursday. Mrs. Evans returned Rome early in the week. 7 Mrs. W. B. Farquharson is visiting Mrs. Lance, at Waverley. Mrs. Symes, Hawera, has been visiting Waverley. Miss P. Chittenden, of the Hawera hospital staff, is visiting her mother at Waitara. Mrs. J. W. Bramwell, Feilding, paid a short visit to Mrs. H. H. Bramwell last week. Mrs. C. Bayley has returned home after a lengthy holiday in Hawke’s Bay and at Wellington. Mrs. Burt, Khandallah, and Mrs. J. Plimmer, Wellington, returned early in the week. Pat Lovell returned yesterday after visiting friends at Eltham and Kapuni. Dr. Jessie Burnett, New Plymouth, who has been staying with her sister, Mrs. H. M. Besley, returns home to-day. Mrs. F. W. Horner returned recently from a fortnight’s holiday at Wellington. Mrs. A. F. Beck returned yesterday from a short holiday spent in Waverley and Marton. Mrs. E. Jobson, Nairobi, who has been staying with Mrs. W. Jobson for a month or two, left on Tuesday to spend a fortnight on the shores of Lake Taupo. Miss F. McHugh, Thames, who is well known in South Taranaki, has been staying with Mrs. C. S. Davis on her return from Wellington where she attended the re-union given by Lord Bledisloe for nursing sisters who served in the Great War. She left last night on her return north.

Mesdames A. K. North, H. R. Kemp, G. J. Bayley, L. A. Ablett, W. M. Winks, H. M. Besley, T. F. McKenzie and Dr. Jessie Burnett (New Plymouth) were Mrs. D. G. Smart’s guests at a pleasant morning tea party yesterday, the guests enjoying a look round the rockery and gardens before departing.

Wearing a brown and gold figured crepe de chine frock, Mrs. Welsh entertained a number of friends at tea on Thursday afternoon. Tea was taken in tire drawing-room, where the vases and rose bowls were laden with beautiful roses of mixed hues.

Mesdames A. Thomson, R. Leece, C. Tonks, W. F. Buist, L. J. Bull, H. McWilliam and Misses I. E. R. McLean, N. Watty, C. Tonks, Ingles, Dingle and G. White were the guests.

Miss Ruth Pease was hostess at bridge on Tuesday evening. She wore a frock of floral ninon in green tonings. A large bowl of blue lupin, hydrangea and antusia, with vases of golden gleam nasturtiums formed a pretty colour scheme. Bridge honours, went to Miss C. Tonks, Miss B. Powdrell winning the consolation prize. The guests were Mrs. N. Douglas (Stratford), M. Bright, K. Coleman, M. Washer, A. Wills, C. Tonks, M. Black, B. Powdrell, J. Hunter, M. Hawken, N. Duckworth, J. Powdrell, K. Buckeridge, G. Goodson, S. Lovell, B. Ryan, E. Buist and A. Kemp.

There were four tables in play when the Misses Powdrell entertained a number of young friends at bridge on Thursday night. The honours prize for games was won by Miss Ruth Pease and another prize was won by Mrs. C. S. Robb. Large bowls of sun-gleam nasturtiums and jardinieres of stately lupin heads made bright spots of colour in the decorations. A pretty blue georgette frock was chosen by Miss Joyce Powdrell, and Miss Betty wore a quaint basqued frock of floral and plain white taffetas. The players present included Mesdames N. Meuli, C. S. Robb, H. Jones and Misses E. Buist, S. Lovell, R. Pease, M- McKenzie, K. Coleman, M. Black, J. Hunter, N. Duckworth, M. Washer, M. Bright, Mary Wilson (Auckland) and C. Tonks.

The drawing-room at “Roslyn” was attractively arranged with vases of Iceland poppies when Mrs. Antoni Bonetti entertained one evening this week. Mrs. Bonetti wore an ankle-length frock of pastel patterned ninon, Miss Joy Durham in a party frock of white organdi assisting her aunt. Pianoforte solos were played by Mrs. Veale and Miss Purser, duets by Mr. and Mrs. Allwright and Mr. and Mrs. Jones and a violin solo by Mr. A. Sargeson. A Maori haka was given by Mr. and Mrs. Allwright and Mr. and Mrs. Jones. Among those present were Mesdames C. Purser, A. M. Winks, Beauchamp (Wellington), R. R- Henderson, D. Beck (Pihama), P. O. Veale, S. F. Prosser, M. R. Jones, R. S. Allwright and A. Braid, Misses G. Purser, McCall, J. Winks and R. Buckeridge.
