WHITE PARKING LINES

CARS OUTSIDE LIMITS. STRICT OBSERVATION URGED. That steps should be taken to make motorists observe the limits imposed by the white parking lines at New Plymouth was a recommendation to the new committee of the Automobile Association, Taranaki, adopted at the annual meeting of the association. Mr. N. F. Little said it appeared that no steps were being taken to enforce motorists to observe the limits imposed. He had seen many breaches but no corrections. If the lines laid by the borough council were to be effective the limits must be observed, particularly during the early stages of their introduction. It would be necessary to keep the lines distinct and Mr. Little urged that the incoming committee take the matter up with the borough council. On a recent night he had seen as many as a dozen cars outside the lines, said the president, Mr. W. T. Guild. At first the council was rather diffident about the scheme, but once early experiments were successful it had not hesitated to adopt a comprehensive scheme. He was certain that the council would carry on the good work and it appeared unfair to criticise at the present stage. Inspectors were instructed to see that the limits were observed, but motorists had to be given time to get used to the innovation.
