FORTY-FOLD TAXATION
The Earl of Lichfield said lately that when he succeeded to the title he paid in death duties, 40 times as much as his father paid in succession duties, ana he thought it. probable that when his son succeeded to the title he would have to pay half as much again. Lord Lichfield was speaking at the coming-of-age celebrations of his elder son, Viscount Anson, at Shubborough Hall, near Stafford. “It is difficult to see how an estate can be carried on under these appalling conditions of taxation, he said.
