EXHIBITION OF GOLF
SARAZEN’S SCORE DISAPPOINTING. BRILLIANT PLAY NEVERTHELESS. By Telegraph—Press Association. Timaru, Last Night. Gene Sarazen, who is on a tour of the Dominion, played in an exhibition four-ball golf match with the Highfield professional, D. B. Forest, against E. A. Scott and J. L. Mackay at the Highfield links to-day. Though Sarazen’s score for the round was not as good as Forest indicated it would be, the total being 73, one stroke more than the bogey for the. course, he gave the gallery a sample of first-class golf. The match finished all square but the best medal round was returned by Mackay, who did a 71, one less than bogey, while Scott, the Timaru club champion, returned a card of 72. Forest took 75. Sarazen stated that he intended to return to the Dominion in two years’ time with Tommy Armour. They would contest the New Zealand and Australian open events.
