CLARITY OF RECEPTION
INTERFERENCE AT A MINIMUM.
CONDITIONS VERY FAVOURABLE.
LISTENERS AT NEW PLYMOUTH
The reception of the re-broadcast of the Royal wedding through the New Zealand YA radio network delighted New Plymouth listeners last night. With interference and surging at a minimum listeners were able to follow the ceremony with ease. Conditions were not as favourable as they have been for shortwave reception; nevertheless very satisfactory reception was obtained. The large number of houses with all lights on at a late hour indicated that many people were availing themselves of the re-broadcast. That many radioowners had entertained friends for the occasion was evident from the unusually large number of people in the streets shortly after midnight. As if realising the importance of the occasion, static withheld its menacing effects until shortly after the re-bitoad-cast. All the YA stations were heard distinctly, particularly 3YA. while the short-wave stations GSG and GSC were clearly picked up, although surging was more noticeable than is usual in the case of reception from the studios direct- The simplicity and clarity of Princess Marina’s “I do” and the less distinct response of Prince George must have thrilled many. The solemnity and feeling of the Archbishops of Canterbury s address lost none of its beauty, although transmitted over thousands of miles. The pealing of bells end the commentary of Howard Marshall as the Royal couple approached the carriage from the Abbey were distinctly effective, while the chiming of Big Ben in the background was a fitting finale to a fine broadcast of a
