ANXIOUS MOMENTS
WHEN THE POLICE WALKED IN. CELEBRATING £lOO WINDFALL. Very anxious were a few moments spent on Wednesday night by the male members of a New Plymouth office. Some time ago an office syndicate won, so the story goes, £lOO. The occasion seemed to call for a celebration and on Wednesday night it ■.obk place. The wherewithal was obtained and proceeded swimmingly behind a curtain rigged up in a portion of the office. The evening was nearing its concluding stages when there was a slight commotion outside the curtain, which parted to reveal the countenance of a New Plymouth police officer. A momentary gloom settled upon the party, but the occasion had been one for rejoicing and the prevailing spirit soon reasserted itself. It had no effect, however, and a proportion of the members were taken to the police station by the forbidding presence. As in all good and true stories, however, there was a happy ending. The worst did not occur and the pessimists of the party had their fears unrealised, for all that was wanted by the police officer was a squad for r.n identification parade.
