GENERAL AND PERSONAL NEWS. A cricket team from Strathmore travelled to Puniwhakau, where a friendly match was played last week-end. The visiting team won by 46 runs. On Monday night sound pictures were shown in the Strathmore hall. The attendance was large, many being present from Makahu. A meeting was held in the Strathmore hall on Tuesday night, a large number of farmers being present, to hear Mr, W. J. Polson, M.P., discuss the proposed mortgage corporation. After several questions had been asked the speaker a unanimous vote was passed endorsing the proposals put forward by Mr. Polson. Mr. and Mrs. Blair have taken up residence at Te Wera. Miss M. Galler, Hawkes Bay, i§ the guest of Mrs. H. Mayo, Strathmore. Mr. F. Garlick is an inmate of the Stratford hospital. ELTHAM ANGLICAN BAZAAR. ANNUAL EFFORT SUCCESSFUL. The annual bazaar of the Eltham Anglican Church was held yesterday in All Saints’ Hall, which was attractively decorated for the occasion. The stalls displayed a variety of articles which found buyers at reasonable prices. Competitions were arranged and showed a satisfactory return. The stall-holders were: Novelty, Mesdames A. McWilliam and J. R. M. Stewart; cakes, Mesdames R. H. Gswer, C. A. Belcher, W. H. Higgins, W. D. Hart, G. V. Riddle and Miss D Riddle; produce, Mesdames J. Rye and G. W. Tayler; sweets, Mrs. A. Craig and Miss D. Langston; sewing, Mesdames W. Langston, R. P.itter and C. Horrocks; girls’ guild, Mrs. C. A. Cooper and Miss Gwen Coleman; Rawhitiroa stall, Mesdames F. Silver and D. May; men’s stall, Rev. W. Langston and Mr. A. McWilliam.

In the evening a bright entertainment of vocal and elocutionary numbers and sketches was presented.

The Matau Young People’s Social Club held an enjoyable dance last Tuesday. Excellent music was supplied by Wright's A.B.C. dance band, extras being played by Miss S. Mounsey and Mr. J. Moody. A Monte Carlo waltz was won by Mr. J. Hartigan and Miss Russ and a competition was won by Mr. Brereton, Whangamomona.
