MATIERE NEWS
TENNIS COURT IMPROVEMENT. Recently , the members of the Matiere Tennis Club held a working bee and gave one of the two courts a new coat of tar-sealing. The surroundings of the courts were also cleaned up and they should soon be ready for play. Both the Waikaka and the M?ngakaikatea clubs have been open for play for some time now.
A meeting of ratepayers was held in the Matiere hall recently by Cr. Renner to discuss the loan conversion scheme of the Ohura County Council. Over 20 ratepayers were present and a resolution opposing the conversion was carried practically unanimously. During the last two weeks the camp on the Mokau-Ohura Road has again been established, and a start made with getting metal out of the river to complete the 4 or 5 miles metalling that is still to be done on this road.
