SHIPPING HELD UP AT CALCUTTA.
WORKERS IN SERIOUS CLASHES.

Rec. 8.20 p.m. Calcutta, Nov. 28. Fifty big cargo steamers were held up and the whole waterfront was deserted on the River Hooghly at Calcutta as a result of a dockers’ strike involving many thousands of men, who are demanding higher wages and fewer working hours. Serious clashes occurred between strikers and loyal workers.
