TURKS ADOPTING SURNAMES.
STEP TO AVOID CONFUSION.

The National Assembly has decreed that Kemal Pasha’s family name in the future shall .■ be “Ataturk, meaning “father of the Turks.” This will inaugurate a new lead compelling all Turks to adopt surnames, thereby avoiding confusion, due to the preponderance of the same names. Even newspapers are choosing purely Turkish titles, and Turkish women unmarried Will now be termed “bayan,” the feminine form of “khan,” instead of “khanum.”
