HIGHER PAY WANTED
TIMARU UNEMPLOYED REQUEST. TRADESPEOPLE SIGN PETITION By Telegraph—Press Association. Timaru, Last Night. Upwards of 180 unemployed held a demonstration through the town this afternoon for the purpose of presenting a petition signed by 241 tradespeople to the Mayer. The petition supported the unemployed in their request for an increase in relief pay. The procession marched through the Streets to the public reserve, where speeches were made. The Rev. Clyde Carr, M.P., tad Messrs. H. T. Armstrong, M.P., Christchurch East, and R. Semple, M.P., Wellington East, were the principal speakers. The petition was later presented to the Mayor in the council chambers, and he assured the men that he would forward the petition to the Minister of Employment.
