EARTHQUAKE FELT
JERKY TREMORS AT DANNEVIRKE. PEOPLE ALARMED; NO DAMAGE. By Telegraph—Press Association. Dannevirke, Last Night. On Saturday night two jerky earthquakes occurred, one about 10 o’clock and another at midnight. This morning there was a shake at 11.50 o’clock and another shortly afterwards, followed by one at 12 minutes past 12. The last was very severe and alarming, causing people to rush from the buildings. It was felt through the district An unusually long spell of hot weather at Pahiatua was interrupted by several sharp earthquakes, the worst being a violent jolt this afternoon at 12.12 o’clock. Buildings creaked alarmingly. The shake lasted a very few seconds and there was a noticeable absence of swaying both before and afterwards. SHARP SHOCK AT TAUMARUNUI. RUMBLING NOISE BEFORE SHAKE. (By Wire.—Special to News). Taumarunui, Last Night A sharp earthquake was felt at Taumarunui at 3 o’clock on Sunday morning. A slight rumbling noise preceded the tremor, which lasted several seconds. The direction was north and south, but nn damage was done.
