KING COUNTRY ROADS
VISIT FROM .HIGHWAYS BOARD.
REQUESTS MADE BY SETTLERS.

Taumarunui, Last Night.
The members of the Mein Highways Board, Messrs. Ct J. McKenzie (chairman), J. Wood, M. H. Wynward, W. Morrison, C. J. Talbot, G. W. Albertson (engineer), and G. W. Knapp (secretary), arrived from Wellington at Chateau Tongariro this morning and commenced a tour of Central King Country. At Raurjmu the chairman of the Kaitieke County Council, Mr. T. H. Crocker, asked the board to grant the council larger subsidies for several main and secondary highways. The members of the board arrived at Taumarunui before lunch and were met by several deputations at the \ borough council chambers. In the absence of the Mayor the deputy-Mayor, Mr. E. Managh. welcomed the party and asked the board to consider declaring Morero Terrace a secondary highway, linking with the, Te Kuiti-Bulls and the Manunui-Owhango highways. The chairman of the Taumarunui County Council, Mr. H. R. Street, applied for more generous subsidies for the purpose of eliminating bends on the Tau • marunui-Stratford main highway and the Kirikau Road leading to the Wanganui river boat landing. . ; . - Messrs., R. F. Beautrais and E. Neary asked for a greater subsidy for the maintenance of the main highways through the Manunui Town Board district, and Messrs. J. A. Gordon and A. E. Seaton asked on behalf of National Park Sawmillers that the board allow heavier loads of timber to be carted on lorries between Tokaanu and National Park.
The chairman promised to consider the requests favourably.
