Mr. R. Cuff, who recently underwent an operation at the New Plymouth hospital, is making a good recovery and is now convalescing at New Plymouth. Mrs. Ross, Eltham Road, is at present reqeiving treatment at the Hawera hospital. No work is being done under the No. 5 scheme at Kaponga this week, it being stand-down week for the centre. Miss Muriel Evans has returned after

a short holiday at New Plymouth. The four Kaponga firemen who are to represent the Kaponga Fire Brigade in the competitions at the forthcoming annual competitions at Blenheim in February are practising regularly and some good times are being registered. Special Sunday school anniversary services were conducted at the Kaponga Methodist Church on Sunday, the service both morning and evening being conducted by the Rev. H. Spencer, circuit minister. The church was filled for the evening service, at which the choir sang

'‘Watchman, What of the Night?” and special anniversary hymns were sung by the children. The musical work was conducted by Mr. N. C. Davies, Miss L. Davies being at the organ, and violin accompaniments were played by Mia Joyce Webby. Mr. Spencer gave a special address to the young people at the evening service, dealing fully with the impressions gained during early life and the importance of the lessons learned in relation to their effect on the character in later life.
