GOODWIN CUP PLAY
CRICKET IN SOUTH TARANAKI,
MANPTAHI’S DEFEAT OF MOKOIA
Manutahi gained a two-point win against Mokoia in a Goodwin Cup cricket competition match played in Mr. C. Wills’ paddock at the week-end. Mokoia batted first, scoring 123 runs, seven batsmen reaching double figures. H. Kibblewhite 22, McMillan 19, and HHawken 17 were the highest scorers. Ten of W. Wills’ 17 overs were maidens and he captured four wickets for 15 runs.
Manutahi went in at two o’clock, requiring 124 runs to win, with an hour and a-half to play. C. Wills and W. Wills opened the innings in spectacular style, 92 runs being put on in 45 minutes. C. Wills included four fours and seven sixes in his total of 72. S. Denby made the winning stroke with a leg boundary. All the bowlers but H. Kibblewhite, who took two wickets for 26 runs, were punished severely, almost all the batsmen including boundaries in their tallies. Detailed scores are:—
