FOURTEEN KILLED
NEW ZEALAND AIR PILOTS. four Years’ oversea record. Fourteen New Zealand pilots have been killed in aeroplane accidents overseas during the past four years, including Flying-Officer Binley. All the others,' however, have occurred during service with the Royal Air Force. There was only one victim in 1930, Flying-Officer C. E. Galpin, of Wanganui, being killed in a collision in Egypt in January that year. Three Dominion pilots lost their lives in 1931. Flying-Cadet. A. M. Acton-Adams died at the R.A.F. College, Cranwell, in February, following a flying accident, while Flying-Officer F. E. Markby, of Dunedin, and Flying-Officer L. McHardy, of Waipawa, were killed on October . 30 near Nottingham. There were also three fatalities in which New Zealand pilots were concerned in 1932. Flying-Officer P. W. J. Pharazyn, of Dannevirke, was killed in a crash near Canterbury on July 29, and on October 12 Flight-Lieutenant. H. C. Marett and Pilot-Officer A. K. White,, both of Napier, lost their lives when their machine nose-dived at Grantham.
Last year four New Zealand members of the R.A.F. were killed. FlyingOfficer J. L. Armstrong, of Dannevirke, met his death in a crash at Blackmore, Essex, on January 4, and in April Lieutenant W. A. W. Jameson, of Christchurch, died following an accident at Suez. Flight-Lieutenant E. Collyns, formerly of Nelson, was a victim of an accident at Aden in July, and Flying-Officer R. R. Murphy, of Tokomaru Bay, was killed at the end of December at Shenfield, Essex. So far this year there have been two New Zealand pilots killed in R.A.F. work. Flight-Cadet J. A. Plugge, of Taupiri, was one of four victims of a collision at Cranwell on May 1, and Flying-Officer Williams’ death was the second fatality.
