If the fine weather at Hawera at the week-end did nothing else it stimulated the sale of sunburn lotions by chemists. Sore-backed citizens were easily in the majority yesterday, and friendships of long standing were almost wrecked by jovially misguided greetings. Manaia Band Concert.

The committee expects a record number of entries, which will close this evening at 5.30 o’clock. The classes include cut flowers, roses, cooking, fancy work, decorative work, etc., and in conjunction with the show there will be a bazaar. WARNER BAXTER SHOWING “AS HUSBANDS GO” AT HAWERA Warner Baxter, one of the most popular male stars of the day, will show again at Hawera in “As Husbands Go,” to be presented at the Opera House to-day and to-morrow. “As Husbands Go” is a picture close to the heart of every man and woman who has tried to combine the devotion of marriage with the piquancy of romance. It projects all the comedy, the heart-warming understanding, all the untheatrical sacrifice of genuine people who honestly seek to make their lives attractive. The film is an adaptation of Rachel Crothers’ famous play. Supporting Baxter is a notable collection of stars. Helen Vinson, Warner Oland, Catherine Doncet, junr., and Frank O’Connor are only a few. The supporting programme is outstanding.
